DiGiovanni’s quick wit, chattiness and honesty have led her to be labeled “the funniest woman working the Canadian comedy circuit.”
In 2002 Debra was voted the Best New Stand-up Comedian at the Canadian Comedy Awards. Five years later she was voted Canada’s Best Female Comedian and her success continues to grow daily. She was a top 10 finalist in NBC's hit show Last Comic Standing, competing against comedians worldwide—both women and men. She is also a favorite juror on Muchmusic’s hugely popular Video on Trial.
Debra keeps busy on tour in Canada from coast to coast, having just finished a gig in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She MC’s gigs for galas and award shows, does voice work for commercials, contracts with advertising agencies helping them write funny copy and does guest appearances on radio and television shows.
But Debra prefers stand-up. “The live performances are so much better than TV,” DiGiovanni says. And adds, “With TV, it’s a lot slower and it has to be ‘nice comedy’, whereas with a live performance, you can be who you want to be without worrying too much about what you say or do. TV automatically slaps a PG-rating on your performance.”
